Project for the business exchange in areas of high economic and environmental impact between the Canary Islands and West Africa.

Introduction

The project entitled "project for the business exchange in areas of high economic and environmental impact between the Canary Islands and West Africa",presented by the Cabildo Insular Fuerteventura, has been selected in the "I call of the program operation of cooperation Territorial INTERREG V-A Madeira, Azores and Canaries (MAC) 2014-2020 "as the main beneficiary of the financial contribution from the European Fund for Regional Development (ERDF). It has a budget of 529.408,53 euros, 85% financed by the ERDF.

The operational programme of Territorial cooperation Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands (MAC) 2014-2020 is the main instrument available to the regions outermost of Spain and Portugal to offer an effective response to the common challenges they face in terms of innovation, competitiveness, internationalization and sustainable development.

The five major fields or thematic objectives of the "I call to the programme operation of Territorial cooperation INTERREG v Madeira, the Azores and Canary Islands (MAC) 2014-2020” are:

-Axis 1: promoting research, technological development and innovation.
-Axis 2: improving the competitiveness of enterprises.
-Axis 3: promoting adaptation to climate change and the prevention and management of risks.
-Axis 4: conserve and protect the environment and to promote the efficiency of resources.
-Axis 5: improve the institutional capacity and the efficiency of public administration.
Being axis 2 of "Improving the competitiveness of enterprises" the driven this project and which aims to create the conditions for Fuerteventura and Canaries in general enterprises internationalization in particular. Also includes actions related to the improvement of the competitiveness of enterprises, in particular:

-Promotion of business cooperation for the development and implementation of business models for SMEs in the area of cooperation.
-Legal, technological, commercial and scientific support for innovation and the internationalization of business services.

The space of cooperation consists of Madeira, the Azores and the Canary Islands, in addition to three countries: Cape Verde, Senegal and Mauritania, that due to its geographical proximity, it has invited them and they have agreed to participate in the program that has allowed to expand the natural area of socio-economic and cultural influence.

The project for the business exchange in areas of high economic and environmental impact between the Canary Islands and West Africa (AFRIMAC) It has as a priority of investment support for the capacity of SMEs to grow into regional, national and international markets and in the  innovation processes

AFRIMAC, also seeks to promote the internationalization of companies in the space of cooperation in areas of high added value.

On the one hand, arises to act in specific sectors with high value added as the water and renewable energy. Así, se realizarán acciones para aumentar el conocimiento de estos sectores y fomentar la cooperación empresarial.

On the other hand, to increase commercial exchanges at the international level arises commissioning work networks based on a technological platform that will serve as a meeting point between the needs generated in African countries and the search of suppliers and even funding for the same.

Cross aim to improve the competitive potential and entrepreneurship in the production of the space of cooperation network. Thus, stand actions that foster the improvement of the human capital and entrepreneurship and a project pilot for empowerment of women in business.

The specific objectives of AFRIMAC are:

- Analysis and identification of business opportunities in the sector of water and renewable energy in Africa
- International trade missions of a sectoral character (water and renewable energies)
- Holding of business meetings of international character in the field of water and renewable energy
- Creation and structuring of working groups for the development of initiatives of internationalization through a technological platform
- Dynamization of working groups for the development of initiatives of internationalization through a technological platform
- Improvement of the human capital and promotion of entrepreneurship
- Strengthening of the presence of women in the business areas

AFRIMAC is led by the Cabildo Insular Fuerteventura as the beneficiary, in collaboration with the following beneficiaries:

- The Chamber official of Commerce, industry, services and navigation of Fuerteventura
- The technological park of Fuerteventura.

Participants from third countries are:

- Ministère des Postes et des Télécommunications de Sénégal
- Agence pour l’Economie et la Maîtrise de l’Energie de Senegal
- Ministère du Petrole, de l’Energie et des Mines de Mauritania
- Agencia para o Desenvolvimento empresarial e Inovação (ADEI) de Cabo Verde
